The 11th Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) 2011 took place in Hanoi, Vietnam from January 9th – 13th, bringing together twenty-eight outstanding university student delegates from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The program deepened the student delegates' understanding of regional challenges and opportunities, while promoting unity within Asia, encouraging cross-cultural dialogue, and offering a platform for diverse perspectives to help build a network for the next generation of leaders across the region. About 350 people attended the event, including representatives from the government, business, and universities in Vietnam
This year’s program, centred around the theme "The New Stage for Asia – An Asian Perspective on Managing Sustainable Development and Economic Integration," aimed to broaden the student delegates' comprehension of Asia’s key role in the global economy and its potential to foster sustainable development in the future, which covered the following sub-themes:
Day 1 to 4 | 9 - 12 January 2011
During the event, student delegates actively participated in discussions on themes such as Sustainable Transportation and Mobility, Sustainable Energy Options, Economic Integration, and Community Security. In addition to the forums and workshops, an overnight trip to Ha Long Bay was arranged to enhance the student delegates' learning experience outside the conference venue. This marked the first time an overnight trip was included in the HYLI program.

On the final day, the student delegates presented their findings and suggestions, sharing insights on key themes discussed throughout the programme. Their presentations highlighted collaborative solutions, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation for Asia's sustainable future.
