Deliver sustainable water resources through Hitachi's expertise in New Water plant operation in 2024
Hitachi Asia Ltd. - Philippine Branch
To help address the severe water shortages in Metro Manila, Hitachi proposed Maynilad to collaborate on the planning and implementation of the New Water to deliver sustainable water resources in a city that is facing a shortage of potable water.
By 3Q of 2024, 12 million liters per day (MLD) of New Water will be delivered to Pasay City that has a population of over 450,000 which will augment the water scarcity problem. The government and regulatory boards have been encouraging enterprises to implement new technologies such as the New Water. As such, our project is aligned with the PH government's initiatives on the integration and harmonization of all government efforts and regulatory activities to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water resources in the Philippines.
Hitachi's expertise in water recycling will contribute significantly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all). We have ensured that the high-grade recycled water produced from treated used water has a multi-barrier using ultrafiltration, advanced membrane technologies (Reverse Osmosis), and UV disinfection.
With thorough planning, studies, and the involvement of many experts, Hitachi will contribute to delivering safe drinking water to the Philippine society. The project opened the door of opportunities and possibilities on the Collaborative-Creation with one of the biggest concessionaires in the Philippines (Maynilad) by sharing Hitachi Engineers' knowledge and skills to level up and empower the Filipino Engineers.

Hitachi Government-Industry (SIRIM) Partnership to introduce and deploy Hitachi technologies and smart manufacturing solutions to accelerate IR4.0 adoption for SMEs in Malaysia
Hitachi Asia (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
Our project was a partnership with SIRIM to collaborate and support SIRIM (who is the national champion arm in R&D and technology development) to promote National Policy in IR4.0 in supporting SME in technologies advancement and convergence so they can be more competitive globally and achieve improve their Global Manufacturing Index from 17th to 13th.
In the beginning, SIRIM doesn't have any experience to setup a proper structure to promote IR4.0, so Hitachi brought in LUMADA experience and Hitachi's methodology to help SIRIM materialized their IR4.0 mission. We invested a lot of time and effort to guide SIRIM and bringing in the right solutions, with limited resources to support SIRIM for this initiative.
During the pandemic, there were challenges in actively involving Hitachi's internal stakeholders due to restrictions on engagement. This resulted in prolonged timelines for deploying solutions that were intended to be implemented quickly, but instead we experienced extended delays.
When our solutions didn't match SME's needs (i.e. factory environment not ready, over-specced systems), so we worked closely with the internal stakeholders to redesign the solutions to data collection, machines connectivity and data analytics. This was a hard decision, but it also turned out to be the best decision ever made as requests started to pour in since the changes were made.
