Hitachi Asia Ltd. was established in February 1989 from the merger of three companies - Hitachi Southeast Asia Pte. Ltd., Hitachi Electronics Components (Asia) Ltd and Hitachi Far East Ltd. The company was in Shenton Way until its move in 1993 to the iconic Hitachi Tower in Collyer Quay. Since its establishment, Hitachi Asia has achieved many significant milestones in our 30-year history.

HAS-SIN started operations with its first office at 78 Shenton Way.
Established Hitachi Asia (Hong Kong) Ltd (HAS-HK), HAS-Taipei (HAS-TP) office, HAS-Beijing and HAS-Seoul.
Established HAS Representative Office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
HAS-SIN was awarded the Operational Headquarters (OHQ) status by the Singapore government.
Established HAS Representative Office in Bangkok, Thailand.
Set up the International Procurement (IP) Division in Singapore to source and supply high quality, low cost parts, materials and equipment from Asia to Hitachi’s manufacturing plants worldwide.
Supplied the largest number of escalators and elevators (75 sets) to Ngee Ann City, a prestigious shopping centre along Orchard Road.
My most memorable moment was when I received my Employee ID. My number was E001. Hitachi does not limit employee career development. The only limitation is oneself.

Established HAS-Ho Chi Minh Representative Office in Vietnam.
Undertook our first large-scale industrial project of constructing a PET-bottle resin plant in Indonesia.
Secured our largest single project from The Polyolefin Company (S) Pte. Ltd. for the construction of an LDPE (Low-density polyethylene) plant on Seraya Island.
Set up a Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Singapore.
Achieved sales of 50 million units of CRTs produced by Hitachi Electronic Devices (S) Pte. Ltd.
Established Hitachi Micro Systems Asia Pte. Ltd. to provide customised design and engineering services for semiconductor products.
Established HAS-Jakarta Representative Office in Indonesia.
Established Hitachi Home Electronics Asia (S) Pte. Ltd. to manage the sales of Hitachi’s consumer and information media products.

Held the 1st Hitachi Young Leaders lnitiative in Singapore.
Established Hitachi Asia (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd. (HAS-WGQ) to market semiconductor products in China.
Supplied inverters to Beijing International Airport’s expansion project.

Officially opened Changi Distribution Centre (CDC) in Singapore.
Supplied inverters to South West Tower, a new office building located at the Central Station of the Airport Express in Hong Kong.
HAS-TH was approved as a “Trade and Investment Promotion Office” by the Office of Board of Investment.
The Hitachi Symphony Orchestra performed in Singapore as part of its 45th anniversary. All proceeds were donated to the Singapore School for the Visually Handicapped.
Hitachi Group in Singapore received the “Distinguished Partner in Progress Award”, the highest recognition from the Singapore Government to corporate entities.

Set up an Asia Treasury Centre (ATC) in Singapore to manage the issuance of bonds, related financial activities and to steer Hitachi/HAS’s expansion and development in this region.
Set up Y2K Project Team to address all Y2K issues affecting HAS business activities and to ensure its competitiveness in the new millennium.
Installed three of the world’s largest absorption chillers (2,500 refrigeration tonnes each) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Supplied 13 sets of heat pump chillers to the Pudong International Airport Project in Shanghai, China.
