Creating an environmentally sustainable future starts from our small, everyday decisions. Each and every one of us has an important part to play in saving our planet!
On that note, we were happy to see our fellow colleagues sharing more about their creative methods for being kinder to the environment. So, a big thank you to all of you who submitted entries for the CONNECT Eco-Hacks Contest!

1. Prepare items as shown below:
2. Cut the bottle about half and cut a hole in the bottle cap:
3. Cut some rope to match the length of the cut bottle and put rope through the bottle cap:
4. Add in soil in the top half of the bottle. Make sure to pull through some rope in the soil (this is so that water can reach the top of the soil too). Add water to the bottom half of the bottle.
5. Top up more soil to cover the rope. As the potting soil is dry, it will help to wet the soil first and add some seeds into the soil. Do place it near a window with ample sunlight and watch it grow! The rope will transport water to the soil and make this into a self-watering pot. Remember to top up / exchange water every few days. (Tips: Basil grows best with at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight each day.)
6. Before long, the seeds should begin to bud!

1. In the bathroom, turning off the water while washing your hair and body can save up to 150 gallons within one month.
2. Clean fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of under running water.
3. Monitor your water bill daily and routinely check your water meter system! You may find unexpectedly high water usage, which could be a result of water leakage.
4. Water plants deeply but less frequently. This also encourages root growth and drought tolerance!
5. Reuse rinse water collected from your home washing machine for alternative purposes such as flushing toilets or mopping floors.
6. Be sure to check if your hot water pipes require mending. This can ensure better delivery of hot water and energy savings!
7. Above all, be creative and don’t hesitate to share suggestions on the various ways you can save water, be it to your employer, school or colleagues!
Congratulations to the winning entries!
