Bringing Joy and Festive Cheer for 31 years!

Since 1991, Hitachi has continually brought the year-end festivities to life on Singapore’s Orchard Road with its sponsorship of the signature light-up event. Before the pandemic, the famed shopping district welcomed more than 5 million Singaporeans and tourists each year during the festive period, and the light-up has remained a year-end highlight for many across the decades. This sponsorship echoes Hitachi’s strong social values and it is with great joy that we continue to make this event a reality year after year.

Themed “Christmas in Bloom”, this year’s decorations draw inspiration from the botanical richness and beauty of Singapore. The three zones, accented with different festive floras, come together in a dazzling, dream-like display that is sure to spread happiness and joy to anyone who visits.

On 13 November, the light-up ceremony was held as a hybrid event at Shaw Centre’s Urban Plaza, with the proceedings being shared on various social media platforms to accommodate more viewers in light of the pandemic. Mr. Kojin Nakakita, Chairman of Hitachi Asia Ltd., delivered his address, where he shared about Hitachi’s commitment and dedication to power good for our society.

The highlight of the night took place when President Halimah Yacob, together with Mr. Nakakita and other distinguished guests, switched on the light-up, transforming the 3.1-kilometre shopping strip into a stunning display of lights and decorations. This year, a total of 178 Hitachi-branded light boxes can be seen along the streets.

Along with the sponsorship of the annual Christmas Light-Up, Hitachi and its Group of Companies (GoCs) came together as One Hitachi to fundraise for Community Chest. For more than three decades, Hitachi’s yearly donations to Community Chest has helped over 100 social service agencies across various sectors in Singapore to provide critical care and services for its beneficiaries.

While observing the safe management measures, we also successfully hosted fellow employees from the various Hitachi GoCs at an exclusive event on Level Five of the Shaw Centre, where they witnessed the light-up from above and watched a live-stream of the main event taking place at Level One.

In conjunction with the yearly sponsorships, we organised the fifth edition of Hitachi Asia’s annual CSR initiative, Hitachi Plays Santa 2021: Cooking from the Heart, where we partnered with Willing Hearts to prepare and distribute meals to its beneficiaries. We were heartened to receive such an overwhelming response from over 200 employees in Singapore, who collectively came together as One Hitachi to power good for the local community.
