Hitachi and the Eastern Economic Corridor
In order to create a value-based economy that is driven by innovation, technology and creativity, the Thai government put forward an ambitious plan termed, “Thailand 4.0” in 2016.
Under Thailand 4.0, the government intends to leverage on information technology (IT) to increase competitiveness while working to build the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The EEC represents the Thai government’s major effort to make Thailand the “new economic hub of Asia”. The EEC covers the provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong on Thailand’s eastern seaboard, and will be an important centre for trade, investment, regional transportation, mainly functioning as a strategic gateway for Asia.
Hitachi and Thailand – since 1936
Earlier in September 2017, Hitachi signed a cooperation agreement with the EEC Office on applying its social innovation solutions including IoT in the new economic zone.
Since 1936, Hitachi has been helping to establish innovative environments to support development in Thailand, rolling out its business capabilities in various fields, including railways, industrial products, and the information and telecommunications system. Through the implementation of Hitachi's Social Innovation Business, the company will further promote the use of IoT technologies along the EEC.
Together, the Thai government and Hitachi aim to create sustainable societies and cities, where people can live in comfort and prosper. At the same time, they also hope to further preserve the environment, as well as to reduce the environmental impacts of socio-economic development.
Managing cost and efficiency with Hitachi Lumada
Using Hitachi’s highly intelligent and customisable IoT platform, Lumada, the company will be able to transform data into intelligent action such as inventory management and quality control where reduction in costs and increased efficiency can be achieved to overcome challenges and seize new business opportunities.
Together, the Thai government and Hitachi aim to create sustainable societies and cities, where people can live in comfort and prosper.

A cutting-edge IoT facility housing the Lumada platform is currently under construction in Thailand. Slated to be completed and operational in 2018, this IoT centre will help to realise vision Thailand 4.0.
