Advancing STEM Education with Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

Developed by Hitachi High-Tech America in 2011 and launched in Singapore in 2017 by Hitachi Asia and Hitachi High-Tech Singapore, the Inspire STEM Education Outreach Programme targets local schools to cultivate future Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) leaders.

To enhance our STEM education outreach to the wider public, Hitachi collaborated with the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM), Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore, for a series of biodiversity programmes through our year-long provision of the Hitachi Tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). This marks our first collaboration with a museum in Southeast Asia!

To kickstart this collaboration, Hitachi and LKCNHM organized an exclusive showcase for educators, LKCNHM associates, and our partners on 20 May 2024, to learn more about the tabletop SEM. Due to its high magnification, the SEM allows humans to see the tiniest particles not visible with the naked eye or the conventional microscope.

Guests were also treated to a sneak preview of the "Nature Remixed" temporary exhibition. One of the works on display, titled “Filtering Microworlds”, is pieced together using data generated by the Hitachi tabletop SEM.

Guests immersed themselves in audio and visual cues at LKCNHM’s multi-sensory temporary exhibition – Nature Remixed.

We look forward to the continued success of this collaboration, as we work together to inspire the next generation and contribute positively to society!
