Spreading Love and Joy to Everyone this Christmas

IYGA

Taking centre stage in this year’s light-up is a shimmering main arch, adorned with a gigantic blue ribbon and festooned with glittering reindeer and hollies, at the Orchard-Paterson Road junction.

Every year for the past 30 years, the annual Christmas Light-Up at Singapore’s iconic Orchard Road is much anticipated by Singaporeans and visitors alike. This year’s theme, “Love This Christmas”, was a reminder that no circumstances should stop us from spreading love and joy to those we care about.

The Hitachi Group of Companies in Singapore was proud to come together as ‘One Hitachi’ and continue to be the main sponsor for the 30th consecutive year, to demonstrate our strong commitment to the community in Singapore. The sponsorship is tied to our annual donation to the Community Chest to help over 80 charity organizations, demonstrating how ‘Hitachi Social Innovation is POWERING GOOD’.

This year’s Orchard Road light-up virtual ceremony was broadcasted live on 13 November 2020 to the world. For the first time ever, Mr. Toshiaki Higashihara, President & CEO of Hitachi, Ltd., addressed the public from Japan, sharing his appreciation of the longstanding friendship between Hitachi and the Singaporean people and Government. Mr. Higashihara also spoke about Hitachi’s commitment to build stronger relationships with communities, and to design innovative solutions to improve the quality of life and bring happiness.

President Halimah Yacob activated the light-up mechanism together with Mr. Kojin Nakakita, Chairman of Hitachi Asia Ltd., and other distinguished guests. The 3.1 kilometre stretch was transformed into a dazzling display of lights and decorations. Brightly lit snowflakes intertwined with mistletoe and hollies, while Christmas ornaments and white and gold baubles hung from trees and lampposts that lined the boulevard. We appreciated the opportunity to spread Christmas cheer to the community in this New Normal, and hope that the new year will bring better blessings.

The Christmas Light-Up can also be experienced in an all-new virtual 360° tour accessible anywhere around the world until 1 January 2021, and visitors can explore the Hitachi Smart City and capture memories at the Hitachi Virtual Photobooth.
