Hitachi’s Unveils its First Lumada Center in the World
After much anticipation, the world’s first Lumada Center was launched on 17 September in Thailand. Located at Amata City Chonburi, along the Eastern Economic Corridor, the center integrates successful internet of things (IoT) solutions from countries around the world, including Japan, China and the United States of America. The Lumada Center Southeast Asia (Lumada Center) is part of broader efforts to support the national push towards Thailand 4.0.
The Lumada Center will offer advanced digital solutions, services, and technologies. Through the Lumada Center, Hitachi will facilitate the co-creation of customized digital solutions and new value to suit different business needs and drive digital innovation across various sectors including manufacturing, logistics and transactions, security, public and government.
Hitachi hopes to use the Lumada Center to help Thai companies raise their productivity by using data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI)
The center features an IoT solution room to showcase how Hitachi utilizes its Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) to achieve optimal results in the manufacturing process. The co-creation room within the center is open for clients and Hitachi to collaborate through business analysis and service ideation, creating viable business solutions.
Ultimately, Hitachi hopes to use the Lumada Center to help Thai companies raise their productivity by using data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as play a central role in digitalizing the government services.
Gracing the opening ceremony, President and CEO of Hitachi, Ltd., Mr. Toshiaki Higashihara said, “We are proud to launch the Lumada Center Southeast Asia as part of our efforts to support Thailand’s vision to create a sustainable, value-based economy that is driven by innovation, technology and creativity.”
President Higashihara went on further to explain how the Lumada Center came to fruition and how it all started with a meeting with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak back in 2017. The Prime Minister first requested Hitachi’s support for Thailand 4.0. Dr. Somkid likened Hitachi’s support to be immediate and efficient, just like in the case of Hitachi’s first colour TV commercial or “POMPA” about 40 years ago. Two months after that first meeting and the Hitachi team returned to Thailand with the vision of the Lumada Center Southeast Asia.
At Hitachi’s flagship event held the next day, the Hitachi Social Innovation Forum 2018 BANGKOK reiterated Hitachi’s commitment to contribute towards the country’s growth through the use of digital technologies. And the Lumada Center Southeast Asia is just the beginning of this incredible journey that will see the ASEAN nations transform into smarter cities.
A little background on Hitachi’s first colour TV commercial or “POMPA”
About 40 years ago in Thailand, Hitachi first broadcasted a TV commercial with “POMPA” as a catchphrase. Some may remember “POMPA” as Hitachi’s efficient colour TV. The nickname came about after switching the TV on, “POM”, the contents show up in the next instance, “PA”.
