Innovating Cancer Treatment with Particle Therapy

More than 300 cancer patients in Singapore have received proton beam therapy to date. Some of these patients may have undergone treatment at the National Cancer Centre Singapore where Hitachi provided its Proton Therapy system since October 2023.

Known for being more precise and less invasive with minimal side effects, the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) is an advanced type of cancer radiotherapy. Cancer is often complex and challenging to treat. With the mission of improving cancer treatment to the highest possible standards in radiation therapy, the Particle Therapy Cooperative Group was formed in 1985.

Held for the first time in Singapore, its 62nd Annual Particle Therapy Cooperative Group Conference (PTCOG) gathered global leaders in particle therapy to discuss latest advancements and innovations in cancer treatment.

Hitachi Asia Singapore’s Industrial Products Business Unit together with Hitachi High Tech Corporation Business Group participated in the 6-day conference (10 – 15 June 2024) to showcase precise medical diagnostic technology in particle therapy by connecting diagnosis data and treatment plans through digital solutions.

At Hitachi’s booth, a unique semi-transparent structure creates the optical illusion of being “under the Proton Therapy System gantry”, resembling the patient’s treatment process. It housed the booth’s meeting room where discussions to learn more about Hitachi’s latest technology in advanced cancer care were carried out. Our cutting-edge technology contributes to the early detection of cancer cells which results in improved patient outcomes leading to a better quality of life.
