HYLI 2024 Greening Together: Inclusion and Sustainability
HYLI 2024 Greening Together: Inclusion and Sustainability
This year, Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) 2024, an esteemed program dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders across Asia, was held from July 23rd to 26th, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia. The event gathered outstanding university students from across the ASEAN region, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan.
These 32 young leaders, selected for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to societal improvement, participated in workshops, discussions, and projects centred around the theme: “Greening Together: Inclusion & Sustainability.“ They engaged with thought leaders, industry experts, and government officials, exploring solutions to global issues such as climate change, sustainable development, and digital transformation.
This year’s HYLI programme featured an exciting visit to Indonesia's largest microgrid plant in Nusa Penida. The microgrid is operated by PT Indonesia Power and PT Hitachi Sakti Energy Indonesia helped with the deployment. Deployed on an area of 4.5 hectares, the project development was carried out to increase the reliability and sustainability of electricity supply in Nusa Penida, an adjacent island to Bali which is also becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination.

“The four-day experience was truly exceptional. Not only did I have the opportunity to meet new friends from other countries, but it also significantly expanded my horizons. Every panel session, workshop, and group discussion, along with the visit to Hitachi’s microgrid in Nusa Penida, highlighted how technology can effectively supply clean energy for a sustainable and greener future. Additionally, the mentorship session provided invaluable insights on applying critical thinking to solve challenges in achieving sustainable development goals,” said Mr. Seyya Viriya from Udayana University in Bali, Indonesia.
