Hitachi in Indonesia Supports Earthquake Victims

PT. Hitachi Asia Indonesia, together with four other Hitachi Group Companies in Indonesia, PT. Hitachi High Tech Indonesia; PT. Hitachi Astemo Bekasi Auto Parts; PT. Hitachi Channel Solutions Indonesia and PT. Berdiri Matahari Logistik collaborated with Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Filantra to provide emergency relief aid to earthquake victims in the district of Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia.

On 21st November 2022, Cianjur district was jolted by a powerful earthquake, whose magnitude and intensity took many by surprise. This caused thousands of homes and public facilities such as schools to be damaged, while approximately 7,000 people were displaced. Besides that, the hopes, and aspirations of the people of Cianjur were deeply affected by the disaster. Without access to proper resources and facilities, the children of Cianjur were unable to continue their studies until further notice.

In a remarkable display of commitment towards Hitachi’s core values of Harmony, Sincerity and Pioneering Spirit, the Indonesian team recognised the urgency of the situation and the dire need for accessible education. They took the initiative to support renovation works on affected schools as part of the Cianjur Earthquake Affected School Renovation Programme and were given the privilege to carry out the renovation works for an elementary school called “SD Negeri gelar 2 Cianjur” (SDN Cianjur 2nd Degree) for students from the ages of 6 to 12 years old.

Additionally, the generosity of Hitachi colleagues saw a total amount of IDR125,000,000 (USD8,330 equivalent) in cash donations collected to repair the school’s damaged ceilings, windows, classroom doors, foundation pillars, and sports facilities such as a basketball court and a volleyball court. The renovation works took about three weeks to complete from 21st February to 20th March 2023.
