Christmas: A Timeless Celebration

Christmas is the season of giving. This is why Hitachi chooses to give, year after year. 2023 marks 33 great years that Hitachi has been giving back to the community by way of lighting up the iconic Orchard Road.

The annual Christmas Light-up is something many look forward to. And Hitachi is honoured to be its main sponsor, joining in with the rest of the world in welcoming the year-end festivities with sparkling Christmas trees and dazzling lights.

On 16th November, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam attended and kickstarted the light-up ceremony as Guest-of-Honour, while Hitachi Asia’s Chairman Kojin Nakakita delivered an opening speech.

At its heart, Hitachi aims to continue spreading joy and cheer to the community as a firm advocate for Powering Good within societies.

This year, visitors can expect to experience a fresh Christmas wonder, complete with bright LED clouds.

Hitachi hopes that local families and tourists will immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere and create new memories while celebrating Christmas on A Great Street.

It will surely be an unforgettable time, so be sure to capture these precious moments with plenty of photos. Meanwhile, check out the evolution of the Christmas Light-up over the last three decades!

Powering Good to the Community

In partnership with Community Chest, Christmas Light-Up 2023 is also an opportunity for Hitachi to give back to the community. This year, the Hitachi Group in Singapore raised a total of SGD220,000 in donations.

100% of these funds raised go towards more than 100 social service agencies supported by Community Chest, so that they can continue empowering the lives of individuals and families that need support. To date, there are over 200 critical programmes offered to those in need, including special education, youth programmes, adult disability support, family service centres, eldercare and caregiver support.

As we celebrate with our loved ones, let’s also spread the festive cheer to everyone in the community!

Powering Good from Within: Hitachi Plays Santa

As with recent years, employees from the Hitachi Group of Companies in Singapore also came together as One Hitachi to do good for the community in the spirit of Christmas.

This year, the company planned a block party for youths under the Singapore Red Cross’ Young Hearts Programme, marking the seventh edition of Hitachi Plays Santa.

During the event on 11th November, around 400 residents, including kids, parents and seniors had a fun afternoon with live food stations, games and activities’ booths and prizes!

MP (Member of Parliament) Mr. Louis Ng was also present and mingled with all residents and volunteers that were present at the Christmas-themed occasion.

The youths were also given the opportunity to ride on the open-top HIPPO bus to enjoy a mesmerising night under the colourful Christmas clouds.

Making the Christmas Light-up More Sustainable

Did you know? The organisers of the Christmas Light-up have endeavoured to make this year's display even more sustainable.

For example, they reused most of the LED lights and cement stone counterweights amongst other commendable efforts. The consolidated result could measure up to curbing about 100 tonnes of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to an estimated 4,000 trees saved!

At Hitachi, we applaud such initiatives as co-creating Green business solutions with our partners are extremely crucial to building a sustainable world.

We hope everyone enjoys the Christmas on A Great Street and wish all of you a Merry Christmas!
