32 years of Christmas on A Great Street
2022 marks the 32nd year of Hitachi as the main sponsor of the annual Christmas light-up on Orchard Road. On 12th November, President Halimah Yacob officiated the Christmas on A Great Street 2022 Community Chest Light-Up Ceremony, transforming Orchard Road into a magical boulevard replete with glistening light displays to celebrate the festive season.
Visitors will be greeted by a spectacular main arch adorned with eye-catching Ferris wheel and starry design at the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road. The 104 trees lining both sides of the renowned shopping strip are brought to life with energy-saving LED white lights and ornate decorations, creating 3.1 kilometres of wonderland experience to delight motorists and pedestrians alike. Interactive set pieces at strategic locations also create perfect photo opportunities for family and friends.
“Sponsoring Christmas on A Great Street has become somewhat of a fond tradition for Hitachi. We are proud to be sponsoring this event for the 32nd year running and continuing to evoke spirits of joy and smiles on people's faces. This event also symbolises our close partnership with Singapore. Over the last 57 years, we have witnessed the growth of Social Infrastructure in Singapore and are proud to have partnered with the island nation to achieve many milestones together. As Singapore progresses towards the future, we strongly intend to contribute more, especially in the areas of Green, Digital, and Innovation. This year, we are equally excited to see the borders opening up and welcoming many of our global friends to come down to this iconic street to experience the festive cheer of Christmas.”
- Mr. Kojin Nakakita, Chairman of Hitachi Asia Ltd.
More than just a visual spectacle, the annual Christmas light-up is also a platform for us to power good. Hitachi and our Group of Companies in Singapore continued our tradition of charitable donation to make this Christmas extra special for the underprivileged communities in Singapore, presenting a cheque of S$220,000 to Community Chest to empower children with special needs and youths at risk, adults with disabilities, persons with mental health conditions, and seniors and families in need of support.
On a more personal level, employees of Hitachi Group in Singapore came together in Hitachi Plays Santa 2022: Build-a-Wheelchair and built 25 wheelchairs for the elderly of All Saints Home. Do look out for our next issue where more details will be shared!
To herald in the carnival spirit at this year’s Christmas Light-Up ceremony, 104 trees will brighten the street of Orchard Road with energy-saving LED white lights.
