Georgetown University x Hitachi Asia: Identifying White Space Opportunities

On 14th July, a group of MBA (Master of Business Administration) students from Georgetown University were in Hitachi Square to give a presentation on the list of white space opportunities that were identified.

This presentation came after six weeks of white space analysis where each of the 12 students presented their findings for their selected topics. In each topic, the students covered the broad trend, competitive landscape, opportunities, and challenges, followed by their recommendations. The countries of focus were Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

The study achieved its aim of identifying white spaces in the rising Environment and Digital markets in ASEAN which could best leverage on Hitachi’s capabilities and plans.

The nine areas of opportunities identified were:

(a) Manufacturing × Internet of Things (IoT)

(b) Renewable Energy × Information Technology

(c) Electric Vehicles

(d) Digital Payments

(e) Green Finance

(f) Health Care

(g) Microgrids

(h) Battery Recycling

(i) Drone Automation

Some very insightful analyses were made where an active Q&A were exchanged between the Hitachi management and students. In addition to Hitachi Asia’s attendance, some group companies such as Hitachi Energy, Hitachi High-Tech, Hitachi Vantara, Hitachi Sunway and FusioTech, as well as country offices in Malaysia and Thailand were also invited to attend.
