Powering Good in Thailand Amidst the Pandemic

Even as the COVID-19 situation worsens in Thailand, Hitachi remains committed to improving people’s quality of life – now more than ever.

For Hitachi Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (HAS-TH), staff safety remained the number one priority. A COVID-19 Committee was therefore established to lead the challenging task of ensuring the safety of every Hitachi Asia employee in Thailand. Measures that were considered by the committee and implemented by the Human Capital Group (HCG) included a transition to work-from-home arrangements, social distancing measures in workplaces, and strict health checks and protocols. The office layout was also rearranged to be aligned with social distancing measures in anticipation of employees’ eventual return to the workplace.

More than that, Hitachi has been supporting vaccination efforts within Hitachi Group Companies in Thailand where necessary, sourcing for vaccines for unvaccinated employees. To date, all Hitachi Asia (Thailand) employees who have opted for COVID-19 vaccines have already received their first dose of the vaccine.

Hitachi has also been making a difference for employees outside of the workplace. To help with work-from-home costs and support Thai employees’ well-being during the pandemic, a special lump-sum assistance of THB 5,000 was prepared for Hitachi Asia employees in Thailand. Furthermore, all employees were provided with home safety kits that include thermometers, oxygen meters and COVID-19 antigen test kits.

In August, 5 oxygenators (Oxygen Concentrator) were purchased for employees facing COVID-19-related health complications to borrow. Through this initiative, some much-needed aid will be provided to affected staff members with severe breathing difficulties. Furthermore, Hitachi has been supporting employees with COVID-19 by securing hospital rooms for them, ensuring they are able to get the medical treatment they need to recover from the illness.

Externally, Hitachi has also done its part to provide aid to Thai citizens who have been severely affected by the pandemic. To save lives, Hi Flow Oxygen Generators were provided to public hospitals in Thailand for patients with severe cases of COVID-19. To give back to medical personnel who have tirelessly worked to treat patients throughout the entire pandemic, Hitachi employees also came together to provide meal boxes for medical staff.

Mr Yoshihiro Sugeta, Managing Director of Hitachi Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “As we face this difficult pandemic situation, it is more important than ever for Hitachi to focus on improving the quality of life. Firstly, our top priority is ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, and continuing to provide support as much as we can. Simultaneously, we will contribute to society in various ways, including providing aid to those most severely impacted by COVID-19.”

“As One Hitachi, I am confident we will overcome this hardest time together, not only for us but for our society.”
