Late Chairman Emeritus of Hitachi Ltd., Mr. Hiroaki Nakanishi Posthumously Awarded Public Service Star

The late Mr. Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman Emeritus of Hitachi Ltd., has been posthumously awarded The Public Service Star, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of Singapore.

The medal, which was instituted in 1963, is awarded to persons who have rendered a valuable public service to the people of Singapore.

Mr. Nakanishi was awarded The Public Service Star for his noteworthy contributions to Singapore as a former member of the Singaporean Economic Development Board’s (EDB) International Advisory Council. Members of the council advise EDB on its international and regional strategies, playing an important role in supporting the economic development of Singapore.

During his time at Hitachi, Mr. Nakanishi was instrumental in leading Hitachi’s recovery from the great losses it incurred in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. He later assumed the post of Chairman in 2014 and stepped down in May earlier this year to focus on his health.

He also served as the 14th Chief of the Japan Business Federation, also known as Keidanren, from 2018 to early 2021.

Regretfully, Mr. Nakanishi passed away on 27th June 2021, at the age of 75. Even as we mourn the loss of a great leader, we would like to recognise and appreciate the significant contributions he made, both to the company and to the nation of Singapore.
