Inspiring Smart Building Solutions
Inspired by the vision of a greener Singapore, Dr. Lin Wujuan worked with his team to help reduce energy usage by buildings. Through the innovation and development of a nation-wide data repository known as the SLEB Smart Hub, his work helped facilitate the adoption of energy efficient building technologies and empower government agencies to improve policy making. The project won Wujuan the Grand Prix award at the Inspiration of the Year Award 2019 (IYGA2019).
“In Singapore, buildings consume more than 50% of the electricity usage. To drive down greenhouse gas emission and combat climate change, we created a one-stop platform to provide expert recommendations and help building owners adopt energy efficient technologies. Our vision is to apply our solutions to other ASEAN countries and contribute to creating sustainable societies,” said Wujuan.
The IYGA judges were impressed with the team’s Pioneering Spirit as the platform is the first of its kind in the world - integrating building energy prediction machine learning models, energy audit consultant process, and constraint logics. Keeping an open mind and providing timely responses helped create Harmony in the working relationship with the stakeholders. The Hitachi team also demonstrated Sincerity with providing honest feedback and proactive approaches. These ultimately helped them secure another BCA Smart Building Innovation Grant to reduce building energy consumption and improve occupant’s comfort, through AI-based integrated building control.
