Christmas Light-up 2023 / Hitachi Plays Santa 2023
33 years. One iconic event. Countless smiles.
Christmas is the season of giving. This is why Hitachi chooses to give, year after year. 2023 marks 33 great years that Hitachi has been giving back to the community by way of lighting up the iconic Orchard Road.
This year, visitors can expect to experience a fresh Christmas wonder, capturing a child’s imagination as one wanders through a cotton candy cloud dreamscape with Christmas trees and bells, as well as teddy bears, reindeer, and candy canes.
On 16 November 2023, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, together with Hitachi Asia’s Chairman Kojin Nakakita, as well as other representatives from the Community Chest, Orchard Road Business Association, Singapore Tourism Board and other organisations, initiated the launch of the Christmas Light-Up.
We hope that local families and tourists will immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere and create new memories of the light-up while celebrating Christmas on a Great Street.

Powering Good to the Community
Christmas is indeed the Season of Giving.
Through our partnership with the Community Chest, we have raised funds to empower the lives of more than 200,000 beneficiaries across a range of causes such as adults with disabilities, children with special needs, youths-at-risk, needy families, persons with mental conditions and seniors in need.
As we celebrate with our loved ones, let’s also spread the festive cheer to everyone in the community!

Making the Light-Up More Sustainable
The organisers of the Christmas Light-Up have endeavoured to make it more sustainable. Likewise, at Hitachi, we applaud such initiatives as co-creating Green business solutions with our partners are extremely crucial to build a sustainable world.
Re-using most of the LED lights and the cement stone counterweights are some commendable efforts among many other initiatives. The consolidated efforts could possibly curb about 100 tonnes of carbon emission which is equivalent to about 4,000 trees saved!

Powering Good from Within: Hitachi Plays Santa
To strengthen our commitment towards Powering Good, employees from various business units and Group of Companies came together as One Hitachi, to do good for the community. This year, we had a block party for children and youths under the Singapore Red Cross’s Young Hearts Programme, marking the seventh edition of Hitachi Plays Santa.
During the event on 11th November, 302 residents, including kids, parents and seniors had a fun afternoon with live food stations, games and activities’ booths and prizes!
MP (Member of Parliament) Mr. Louis Ng was also present and mingled with residents and volunteers that were present at the Christmas-themed occasion.
The youths were also given the opportunity to ride on an open-top HIPPO bus to enjoy a mesmerising night under the colourful Christmas clouds.
